Paintless dent repair (PDR) can make a dent disappear without repainting — on the right surface. On an RV, whether it works depends on what the dented panel is made of.
How PDR works
A technician massages the metal back into shape from behind or pulls it from the front, without sanding or painting. When it works, the factory finish stays intact.
Where it can work
- Aluminum siding and panels with intact paint
- Steel cab and van panels, such as on Class C and camper van chassis
- Shallow, smooth dents without creases
Where it usually doesn't
- Fiberglass and gel coat — fiberglass cracks rather than bending back
- Dents with cracked or chipped paint
- Sharp creases and stretched metal
- Areas without access behind the panel
The alternatives
Fiberglass damage is repaired and refinished; badly damaged panels are replaced and color-matched. See RV collision repair and RV paint and body.
Frequently asked questions
Can PDR fix hail damage on an RV?
On some metal panels, yes. Fiberglass and roof membranes need other repairs.
Is PDR cheaper?
Often, when it works, because there’s no painting.
Can you tell me which repair fits?
Yes — send photos or bring the RV in.
