RV power

Stop babysitting your batteries

Flooded lead-acid batteries need water, vents and constant attention — and they give you only about half their rated capacity. A modern RV power system pairs a lithium (LiFePO4) battery bank with roof solar and an inverter, so you can run what you need, quietly, with or without hookups.

We size every system to your rig, your appliances and the way you camp — weekends at full hookups, off-grid boondocking, or both.

  • Lithium (LiFePO4) batteriesNear-full usable capacity, faster charging, roughly half the weight of lead-acid, built-in battery management and phone monitoring.
  • Roof solarPanels with an MPPT charge controller that recharge your house batteries every day.
  • Inverters & inverter/chargersPure sine wave power for 120V appliances, switching automatically to shore power.

Compare batteries

Wet cell vs. AGM vs. lithium

How the three common RV house battery types compare.

Wet cell (flooded) AGM (sealed lead-acid) Lithium (LiFePO4)
Usable capacity About 50% About 60% Nearly all of it
Typical cycle life 300–500 cycles 400–700 cycles 3,000–5,000 cycles
Maintenance Monthly water, terminal cleaning None (sealed) None
Venting Must be vented and upright Not needed Not needed
Weight Heaviest Heavy About half of lead-acid
Charging speed Slowest Moderate Fastest
Upfront cost Lowest Middle Highest — lowest per cycle

Lithium banks still have a battery management system that shuts the battery down to protect it, and charging settings must be configured for lithium. That’s part of every conversion we do.

What a lithium conversion includes

  • Converter/charger verified or upgraded for lithium
  • Charge profiles configured correctly
  • Alternator and solar charging confirmed to work with the new bank
  • Secure mounting and proper cabling

Vans

Popular in Sprinter and camper vans

Lithium and solar are the most requested upgrades on camper vans. We can handle the power system and the rest of the van on one work order — see Sprinter and camper van repair.

Questions

RV power questions

Can my RV be converted from lead-acid to lithium?

Most can. A proper conversion includes checking or upgrading the converter/charger and setting the charge profiles for lithium.

How much solar do I need?

As a starting point, about 200–400 watts covers weekend rigs running lights, fans and the fridge. Boondockers running residential appliances usually want 600 watts or more.

What can an inverter run?

A properly sized inverter runs a microwave, coffee maker, TVs, laptops, CPAP machines and residential refrigerators. Larger systems can run a roof A/C for limited periods.

Are lithium batteries maintenance-free?

Yes — no water, no terminal cleaning and no equalizing. The built-in battery management system balances cells and protects against overcharge, deep discharge and temperature extremes.

How much does an RV lithium and solar upgrade cost?

It depends on your rig and your goals. A free consultation leads to a written quote before any work.
