An RV accident is stressful, but what you do in the first hours and days makes a big difference to how quickly and completely it gets fixed.
At the scene
- Make sure everyone is safe and call for help if anyone is hurt.
- Move to a safe spot if the RV can be driven.
- Exchange information and get a police report if required.
- Photograph all damage from several angles and distances.
Before driving on
- Check lights, mirrors and tires
- Make sure slides, doors and compartments close and latch
- Cover openings or cracks to keep water out
The next day
- Call your insurance company and open a claim.
- Choose your repair shop — that’s your right.
- Send the shop your photos to start the estimate.
Let the shop help
We document the damage, write the estimate for your adjuster and coordinate the claim. Most damage doesn’t require a tow, and pickup is free within about 10 miles. See RV insurance claims.
