The steps you take right after an RV accident can shorten the repair and keep hidden damage from spreading. Here’s what to do, in order.
Right away
- Check for injuries and get to a safe place.
- Photograph everything — wide shots and close-ups, before anything is moved.
- Get a police report if required, and exchange information.
- Cover any cracks, holes or open seams with tarps and tape to keep water out.
Within a day or two
- Open a claim with your insurance company.
- Choose your repair shop and send them the photos.
- Keep the RV dry and avoid using damaged slides or doors.
What causes repair delays
- Waiting to report the claim
- Missing photos of the original damage
- Water getting in before the repair
- Parts that must be ordered — the sooner the estimate, the sooner parts are ordered
How we help
