It’s common for an RV collision estimate to change once the repair starts. That’s not a trick — it’s what happens when panels come off and the shop can finally see what’s behind them. Here’s why, and how to avoid surprises.
Why estimates change
- Hidden damage — broken framing, cracked brackets or wet decking behind panels
- Water damage that started after the accident
- Parts — prices, availability or discontinued parts
- Previous repairs uncovered during teardown
How supplements work
When hidden damage is found, the shop documents it with photos and sends a supplement to your insurance company for approval. Repairs on that damage continue once it’s approved.
How to avoid surprises
- Report the claim and get the RV in quickly.
- Keep water out until the repair.
- Ask the shop to inspect around the damage, not just the visible area.
- Ask how the shop will contact you if something new is found.
Our approach
