Most RV breakdowns trace back to a handful of systems. Take care of these five and you prevent the majority of roadside surprises.
1. Tires
Check pressure before every trip with a gauge, replace tires by age, and cover them in storage.
2. Brakes and bearings
Have brakes inspected yearly. On towables, repack bearings every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
3. Batteries
Keep house and chassis batteries charged, clean and tested. Weak batteries strand slides and jacks.
4. Engine and fluids
Change oil and filters on schedule and check coolant, belts and hoses before trips.
5. Roof and seals
Water damage doesn’t strand you on the road — it strands the RV in the shop. Inspect the roof every fall. See free fall roof inspection.
